Is it possible to run an organization without managers, employees or even a formal head office? Can it be run entirely decentralized and autonomous? Christoph will present blockchain enabled government structures as well as the story of "The DAO, the largest crowdfunding project in history". Christoph Jentzsch works on exploring the most basic fundamentals in different systems. After studying theoretical physics in Dresden he worked on the protocol and as the lead tester for the non-profit organization Ethereum. Building a blockchain which enables smart contracts as the fundamentals for a new decentralized economy. Using this technology he authored "The DAO", a decentralized autonomous organisation which runs entirely on the blockchain. He also founded the company Slock.it working on the decentralized sharing economy. ICO + Decentralized Autonomous Organizations turned “Organisms" with Ismail Malik on MIND & MACHINE
Today we explore Decentralized Autonomous Organizations, or DAOs -- blockchain algorithms with the potential to perform the entire functionality of corporations or government agencies... without a single employee. Our guest today is Ismail Malik, a pioneer in Decentralized Autonomous Organizations, pushing the concept even further to what he believes will more accurately be Decentralized Autonomous Organisms -- where the blockchain algorithms’ behaviors go beyond that of an organization into the realm of a dynamic, learning, growing entity that behaves organically. Ismail is the CEO of Blockchain Lab, which specializes in the most ambitious and hardest Blockchain concept implementations. He is also the Editor-In-Chief of “ICO Crowd” Magazine and a thought leader in ICOs, or Initial Coin Offerings. We cover ambitious and massively disruptive uses of Blockchains, then we discuss what ICOs are, dispel common misconceptions, and examine where they are most effective. Decentralized Autonomous Organization A Short Film
A short film about the rise of Decentralized Autonomous Organization with narration by Shermin Voshmgir. This video is for educational purposes only. Produced by: http://complexitylabs.io Twitter: https://goo.gl/ZXCzK7 Facebook: https://goo.gl/P7EadV LinkedIn: https://goo.gl/3v1vwF Excerpt: Blockchain is, I would say, not only a technological revolution but first and foremost a socio-economic revolution. The blockchain is a tool to bring us into a more decentralized world. Why can we disrupt organizations with blockchain in order to understand this we need to understand the history of the internet. So if we look back the first generation Internet in the early 90s revolutionized information and this is why we called it the information data highway. About ten years later we have the so-called web 2.0 - the internet became more mature more programmable and all of a sudden we had on, one the hand social media platforms and on the other hand a peer-to-peer economy where the consumer and the producer came, closer to each other of information of opinion of goods and services. So the original vision of the internet was to be a decentralized world where everyone could put information online. But in the web, it became very centralized with those platforms. It brought us this peer-to-peer economy but with this huge man in the middle this platform in the middle who started to control all the data and dictates the rules of transactions of that platform. So instead of the internet becoming more decentralized it became more centralized, and what we're doing now with blockchain and IPFS on all these other technologies of the decentralized web, we are redesigning data structures given the fact that we are already living in the connected world and if we think of blockchain in the context of the internet it is the driving technology behind the decentralized web, or also called the Web 3.

EB125 – Florian Glatz: Defining A Legal Framework For Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAO)
Support the show, consider donating: 1EW2s8TzMXbXhu3ajUHj4Fi4Ksbo7jUZ3v (http://bit.ly/1VLFlgx) The relatively new concept of a Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO), is often praised as a new type of organizational structure that has no identifiable owner or owners, and whose actions are automated and determined solely by a pre-defined set of rules. Views on DAOs differ widely. On one hand, members of the Bitcoin/blockchain space often portrayal them as AI-like swarm organisms, free from the shackles of nation-states, and that can act at will regardless of laws or regulation. On the other hand, legal experts caution that, like corporations, DAOs and their creators could be held liable in civil lawsuits, and that they may be served a hard dose of reality when they end up in court. We are joined by Florian Glatz, attorney, researcher and software developer (not to mention the proud owner of the awesome domain name blockchain.lawyer). We discuss some of the basic legal concepts surrounding contracts and in what ways smart contracts may or may not fit within our existing legal framework. We also dive deep into DAOs, and address some of the challenges they may pose in the near and distant future. Topics covered include: - The history of innovation in law - How merchant law (Lex Mercatoria) emerged in the 13th century - How we can define smart contracts - The legality of smart contacts - The need for natural language contracts vs. contracts which are written in code - Decentralized Autonomous Organizations - The Slock.it DAO - What would happen if one tried to sue a DAO Links mentioned in this episode: - Florian's Website: http://blockchain.lawyer - What are Smart Contracts? The Decentralized Colllaborative Web - Matan Field
Since the early days of Ethereum and the blockchain 2.0 movement there has been extensive research regarding the Decentralised Autonomous Organisation (DAO) concept. Nevertheless, and despite TheDAO experiment, a complete understanding of what exactly a DAO is and how its ticks is still lacking. In this talk I’d like to briefly sketch a comprehensive DAO protocol, enabling decentralised reputation-based collaboration, decision making and value distribution. A scalable implementation of the protocol on the Ethereum blockchain is made possible by introducing a novel software architecture composed of a simple smart contract on the chain, and an off-chain component responsible for the majority of the interactions with the protocol. https://ethereumfoundation.org/devcon/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/The-Decentralized-Collaborative-Web.pdf

Ethereum $53M DAO HACK - Bad Code Explained - Programmer explains
How did the DAO hack happen and what exactly did the programmers of the DAO do wrong? In this video we're going to learn that by coding our own vulnerable fundraiser and draining its funds with a malicious wallet that we will write as well. This video is for educational purposes only and is made for Solidity developers who would like to understand how these hacks happen in order to build better and more secure smart contracts. The DAO vulnerability has to do with how one can recursively call functions when a send operation is executed. In this video we're not using ether but only sending "numbers", however the principle still holds and the attack can be understood by watching this video. I think it's extremely important for all Solidity developers to udnerstand these Ethereum hacks and be aware how their smart contracts can be hacked if one if not careful. DAO - Decentralized Autonomous Organization — What is a DAO? - Explained - [Hindi/Urdu]
Click here to subscribe our channel for latest videos: https://goo.gl/8jdV97 A DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization) can be seen as the most complex form of a smart contract, where the bylaws of the decentralized organization are embedded into the code of the smart contract, using complex token governance rules. Historically, the Bitcoin network was considered the first true autonomous corporation, that was coordinated solely through a distributed consensus protocol, which anybody was free to adopt. Today, DAOs moved up the technology stack, thereby becoming fully virtualized through software. In case of a Bitcoin-style autonomous corporation, a complex stack of technologies and human-machine systems has to be put in place in order to create a functioning autonomous infrastructure. At today’s evolutionary stage, a DAO materializes as a smart contract – a piece of code – executed on top of an increasingly opaque stack of distributed networking and consensus technology like the Ethereum blockchain or similar blockchains. All cryptocurrencies which use public blockchains are DAOs (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dash, Digix, etc.). Modern DAOs are complex smart contracts on top of a blockchain. The DAO was an example of a DAO on top of the Ethereum blockchain. Aragon Crypto In A Nutshell | Decentralized Organisations
Aragon is a decentralized management platform built on Ethereum that allows anyone to create and manage organisations. More specifically, you can build Decentralised Autonomous Organisations (DAOs) complete with basic features of an organization like a cap table management, token transfers, voting, role assignments, payroll, fundraising, and accounting. Basically, Aragon wants to dis-intermediate (remove intermediaries within the traditional organizational setting). And the best part is that their platform aims to be extremely easy to use for non-coders. - Aziz (Master the crypto) A brief introduction into the aragon project. Meanwhile, those who have been interested in cryptocurrency for years are continually looking forward to try to imagine or develop the next big thing, building on top of the base which Bitcoin has laid, and pushing into ever-more disruptive territories. The DAO, or decentralised autonomous organisation, is one project which has many people's eyes fixated on it. The DAO is a platform on which decentralised applications might run, allowing for decentralised arbitration services which move further towards making government courts of law redundant. Within a few short weeks, the DAO raised about $130 million through crowdfunding - the largest crowdfund in history to date. Of course, this is no guarantee of its success, but it does indicate the level of public support and faith that this project has behind it. Will the DAO go on to transform the world? Or is it merely a stepping stone to building something even more ambitious, transformative, and disruptive? We discuss its potential in this episode of the Paradise Paradox. The DAO - Decentralized Autonomous Organizations - Crypto the WonderDog
Decentralized Autonomous Organizations with Christian Kameir of Sustany Capital -- Crypto the WonderDog Show 7-12-18 The DAO (organization). A decentralized autonomous organization (DAO), sometimes labeled a decentralized autonomous corporation (DAC), is an organization that is run through rules encoded as computer programs called smart contracts. A DAO's financial transaction record and program rules are maintained on a blockchain. The precise legal status of this type of business organization is unclear. A well-known example, intended for venture capital funding, was The DAO, which launched with $150 million in crowdfunding in June 2016, and was immediately hacked and drained of US$50 million in cryptocurrency. This hack was reversed in the following weeks, and the money restored, via a hard fork of the Ethereum blockchain. This decentralized bailout was made possible by a majority vote of the blockchain's hash rate. Decentralized autonomous organizations have been seen by some as difficult to describe. Decentralized autonomous organizations are typified as the ability of blockchain technology to provide a secure digital ledger to track financial interactions across the internet, hardened against forgery by trusted timestamping and by dissemination of a distributed database. This approach eliminates the need to involve a mutually accepted trusted third party in a financial transaction, thus simplifying the transaction.[3] The costs of a blockchain-enabled transaction and of the associated data reporting may be substantially offset by the elimination of both the trusted third party and of the need for repetitive recording of contract exchanges in different records: for example, the blockchain data could, in principle and if regulatory structures permitted, replace public documents such as deeds and titles. In theory, a blockchain approach allows multiple cloud computing users to enter a loosely coupled peer-to-peer smart contract collaboration. Daniel Larimer first proposed the concept of a "Decentralized Organized Company" in an article published on September 7, 2013. Vitalik Buterin proposed that after a DAO was launched, it might be organized to run without human managerial interactivity, provided the smart contracts were supported by a Turing complete platform.[10] Ethereum, built on a blockchain and launched in 2015, has been described as meeting that Turing threshold, thus enabling DAOs. Decentralized autonomous organizations aim to be open platforms where individuals control their identities and their personal data. iTUNES: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/crypto-the-wonder-dog/id1342426584# YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/c/CryptoTheWonderDog SPOTIFY: https://open.spotify.com/show/1SaoepNZDYX75CeN3RouFD PODCAST PAGE - http://cryptocent.podbean.com WEB - Cryptothewonderdog.com TWITTER - https://twitter.com/CryptoCTWD FACEBOOK - https://www.facebook.com/CryptoTheWonderDog/ INSTAGRAM: @cryptothewonderdog BLOG: https://cryptothewonderdog.blogspot.com FEED: http://cryptocent.podbean.com/feed/ LinkedIn Group: https://www.linkedin.com/groups/13579876 Telegram: https://t.me/joinchat/HXYr-1E8iFne2LLgfEwe2A Crypto the Wonder Dog is now looking for the TRUTH when it comes to Cryptocurrencies and BITCOIN, Digital Currency... After the DAO hack, there were three options for the Ethereum blockchain: do nothing, implement a soft fork, or implement a hard fork. Each choice had its pros and cons, although the Ethereum Foundation ending up deciding to do a hard fork to return funds lost in the hack to an account available to the original investors of the DAO, and most of the community agreed with this choice. Considering most of the community agreed with the hard fork, the new version of the chain was remained to be named Ethereum. Those opposed to the hard fork decided to remain on the old chain and coined the name Ethereum Classic. _______________________________________ Token Economics ETC is the native token of the Ethereum Classic blockchain – it is used as gas that incentivizes the network miners through fees from transactions and smart contracts. Up until block 1,920,000, ETH and ETC were the same currency, meaning all transactions before that block are shared between each network. The hard fork diverted ETH tokens into a new blockchain and the ETC ticker was created for the separate blockchain. Unlike Ethereum, ETC switched to a fixed token supply system in late 2017, with a hard cap around 210 million ETC to ever be created. _______________________________________ Strengths - Ethereum Classic is one of the more decentralized blockchains, with multiple development teams working on the protocol (ETCDEV, IOHK, and Ethereum Commonwealth), software for running a node, block explorers, wallets, etc. - Ethereum Classic benefits from inheriting the Ethereum codebase – the Ethereum Virtual Machine enables developers to create and test smart contracts that power decentralized applications. - Immutability – Ethereum Classic has shown that it values the “code is law” rule, meaning there is true immutability on the network and no transactions will ever be reversed. - Ethereum Classic is not bound to a governing entity like the Ethereum Foundation, and there is not one person with significant influence over the protocol. This is good from a decentralization standpoint. For Ethereum, the foundation plays a huge part in the future of the network, and people like Vitalik Buterin are viewed as critical to its success. _______________________________________ Weaknesses - Ethereum Classic has a relatively small community as compared to Ethereum and some other smart contract platforms. As a result, the development activity for Ethereum Classic is far less active than Ethereum. - Judging from the relative hash power compared to Ethereum, Ethereum Classic has a relatively low number of nodes and miners when compared to Ethereum. As a result, the network is more susceptible to 51% attacks and other attack vectors. - There are very few dApps running on Ethereum Classic. - The network is slow and faces the same scalability issue that Ethereum is facing. In the roadmap, the team will be exploring sharding and sidechain as a scaling option. However, no concrete work has been done yet as far as we know. - The immutability feature is both good and bad; transactions will never be reversed on Ethereum Classic but bad actors like the DAO hacker will get to keep their stolen funds. _______________________________________ Disclaimer The information in this video is for educational purposes only and is not investment advice. Creating, managing and operating an organization can be needlessly complicated with lengthy paperwork, bank visits, legal complexities, numerous fees and unnecessary intermediaries and third parties imposing artificial restrictions. We built einc to empower teams around the globe to create, manage and operate decentralized democratic organizations that are more resilient and trusted, enabling efficient creation of value without borders, restrictions and costly intermediaries. Better, faster, secure and inexpensive We decided to take a different path than Ethereum by: • reducing block time from 15s to 6s, which improved: • network transaction per second by 2.5x • transaction confirmation speed by 2.5x • miner reward by 2.5x • removing uncle reward • implementing finite supply for mineable coins This makes the eInc blockchain faster than Ethereum and allows for better scaling while preserving decentralization. einc is created as a fork of Ethereum blockchain with replay protection and hence, has all the capabilities of the Ethereum blockchain with some of our added enhancements. DAO- Decentralized Autonomous Organizations: Can You Trust a Blockchain?
Speakers: Clément Epié (Cellabz) Primavera de Filippi (CNRS/Harvard) Moderator: Benjamin Tincq (OuiShare) This session will address the question of trust (or "trustlessness") and how it relates to the question of human autonomy and agency. Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs) are organizations operated on blockchain-based smart contracts which aim at removing the need for control measures to ensure trust. Can you trust a DAO that is completely autonomously operated? If not, can you trust the people who are operating it? How can a "trustless" technology like the blockchain bridge the gap between these 2 figures? How much agency should be given to a DAO? How to ensure that it does not take away human agency? http://ouisharefest.com

Blockchain 101 Ep 79 - What is Ethereum (Special extended version)
Ethereum, is also known as ETH. At the end of 2013, Vitalik issued the White Paper for Ethereum and began presale in July 2014. At that time, this move was known as "token crowdfunding" by the crypto community. In the presale period of 42 days, through the sale of 60102216 Ether, Ethereum's team managed to raise over 30,000 Bitcoins Also, early stage supporters and developers involved prior to the presale were allocated 9.9% of the total amount of issued Ether. Ethereum had a total of over 72 million tokens at during its launch. When presale of Ether ended, the Proof of Work (PoW) consensus model was adopted and every year 26% of the total issued tokens then were rewarded to miners. October October 2014, Ethereum reduced its block time from 60 seconds to 12 seconds. Currently, the block time is at 15 seconds and block rewards at 5 Ether. Although both Bitcoin and Ethereum utilize Proof of Work (PoW) for mining, the way they generate blocks differs. Due to Ethereum’s shortened block time, it is more prone to forming orphaned blocks. Orphaned blocks are blocks that are not on the longest running chain. Orphaned blocks on Bitcoin do not receive any block rewards. However, for Ethereum, orphaned blocks can be utilized and they’re known as "uncle blocks". Their block data are also recorded in the chain. Unlike Bitcoin, Ethereum's uncle block gives out rewards too. The maximum reward for each uncle block is 4.375 Ethereum. Ethereum is a codable, turing complete blockchain development platform, equivalent to a global decentralized computer. In a programming system, there are normally virtual machines to support compilation and execution. JAVA has JVM. In Ethereum, there is the Ethereum Virtual Machine, EVM, which carries out increasingly complex coding algorithms. Developers may use JavaScript or Python and other programming language to create applications on Ethereum. Through the Ethereum Virtual Machine, one can easily issue digital asset, write a smart contract, build and operate a decentralized application, establish a decentralized, autonomous organization etc. ETH is also known as “gas” within Ethereum. Different from other cryptocurrencies, In addition to fund transfers, Ethereum can also be used for payment of smart contract fees. In order to prevent the proliferation of junk contracts and applications on Ethereum, payment of smart contract fees in ETH is required for developing and execution of smart contracts. For example, to transfer your newly created digital asset on Ethereum, the fee to be paid is in ETH, not with your newly created tokens. VLOG: the DAO "Hack," Ethereum Blockchain & a Developing Global Community
So the Ethereum-fueled DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization) experiment was "hacked" and I couldn't refrain from posting something because I'm pretty into, considering it could help get humanity out of this mess (see the USA elections). I'm far from well-versed on the subject but I feel like I have a decent enough grasp about what happened, so feel free to comment to correct any misleading information I may have relayed... And subscribers, sorry for the interruption of regularly-scheduled posts, but maybe you'll learn something. *DAO is DECENTRALIZED Autonomous Organization (in the video I say democratic--which it is, yes, but not technically what the acronym stands for) http://www.ethereum.org music: http://www.soundcloud.com/CloZee Add me on Snapchat! Ethereum Classic, the original Ethereum blockchain
A hack of Ethereum’s Decentralised Autonomous Organisation fund (The DAO) led to an Ethereum Blockchain hard fork. However, the original blockchain found support, and a talented team now leads the Ethereum Classic blockchain platform in an exciting new direction.
